Installer I
Installer is the second level in the Scenic City Solar installation division.

To qualify as an installer, the employee must:

  • Master all skills on Laborer I
  • Employed full time with Scenic City Solar for a minimum of 30 days
  • Be recommended by the Team Leader to be advanced to Installer I

Duties:

  • Assessing locations to ensure they are suitable for solar panels
  • Measuring up areas for installation
  • Making adjustments to building surfaces so panels fit and are adequately supported
  • Installing and maintaining solar panels on homes, business premises or open land
  • Connecting solar panels to an electrical system
  • Grounding electrical equipment and checking wiring
  • Adhering to strict health and safety guidelines
  • Performing maintenance checks and fixing solar panels
  • Using a variety of technical equipment and tools
  • Cut, assemble, and install support structures for PVs
  • Install solar panels, solar modules, and supports in line with local codes and laws
  • Connect PV systems to electrical systems
  • Weatherproof outdoor electrical equipment being installed
  • Activate and test installed equipment
  • Maintain PV systems when needed
  • Be able to work at heights and in small spaces
  • Work with electricians and roofers when needed
  • Be familiar with electrical systems and reading blueprints
  • Adhere to safe work practices
  • Be able to lift to 50lbs

Professionalism
Maintain personal bearing in times of high stress. Be able to convey ideas or give directions and
assistance to other installers. Assist the team leader with tasks and delegate appropriate tasks to
laborers. Follow up on directions given or received. Work with and support the team leader. Train new
laborers in a professional manner.

Position Description

The repair technician needs to be certified as a Generac installer. Need to have experience in
installation, troubleshooting, and repair. The repair technician will be responsible for all aspects of
troubleshooting and repairing solar systems back to working order. They shall also counsel the customer
on any additional needs for upgrading their system for better performance to meet the customer’s true
needs. This will include advising the customer if they need more PV panels or batteries.

Requirements:

  • Professional appearance

  • Installer competency with 1-2 years of solar installation (preferred)
  • Team leader preferred
  • 1 year of solar repair preferred
  • Generac certification required
  • NABCEP certification preferred
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or another related field preferred
  • Understand theory of electronic circuitry and electrical components

Duties:

  • Maintain high workmanship standards and deliver on commitments
  • Communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers
  • Must be able to diagnose, repair and test product problems as they received
  • Use hardware and software diagnostic tools to assess computerized systems and software driven hardware
  • Have dexterity to use their hands to manipulate objects within computerized systems
  • Perform equipment and component cleaning and regularly scheduled preventive maintenance services
  • Performs electronic repair (such as relay installation,) calibration and alignment to equipment
  • Maintains efficient use of labor, process supplies and tools to help meet plant budgets
  • Enters all maintenance data, performs all necessary routine maintenance, including planning
    and tracking and other equipment activities utilizing maintenance management software

Responsibilities:

  • Technical skills required encompass knowledge of analog and digital electronics (components), reading electronic diagrams, repair skills (analytical), soldering skills, use of T&M (Test & Measurement) equipment, mechanical skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Inspect, clean, diagnose, repair and test products
  • Upgrade products following verbal and written department procedures, work aids, work orders, work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions and/or procedure
  • Label, count, box product per Instructions
  • Accurately and reliably track and record activities, including parts usage using routine reports
    per Instructions
  • Disassemble and reassemble CT and MR systems
  • Ability to utilize tools to repair machines
  • Basic knowledge of computers and able to read diagrams and schematics
  • Must be able to diagnose, repair and test components
  • Repair components in accordance with applicable Component Maintenance Manuals, Engineering data, and/or other approved data
  • Complete repair work within the requested timeframe as provided by the supervisor
  • Maintain shop supply discipline by ensuring available resources are conserved and used efficiently
  • Ensure that a proper level of consumables is maintained to prevent work stoppage
  • Ensure tooling and test equipment within the work area is in good working order and proper maintained and stored
  • Coordinate with your supervisor any tool and equipment requirements
  • Work with your supervisor on process improvement initiatives that will smooth flow, increase productivity, and reduce shop flow days
  • Repair/Replace defective soldering, electronic components such as semiconductors, resistors, transformers, and capacitors, using soldering iron and hand tools
  • Follow wiring diagrams/schematics to locate defects

Position Description

The Team Lead will be responsible for working as the lead member of the solar install team,
assisting with the mechanical, maintenance, and service portions of residential and commercial solar
installation in a high quality and timely manner. This position will help organize and perform the safety
equipment placement, array layout, racking installation, and module placement.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Has the ability to lead the team while practicing Safety, Quality & Efficiency
  • Responsible for the supervision of the entire solar roof and ground mount project
  • Responsible for supervising safety on the job site
  • Communicating with Installation and Project Manager on any changes that needed
  • Mount racking, modules, and electrical equipment
  • Thoroughly and completely filling out job documents
  • Collecting complete data and all required photos to document each job
  • Responsible for the truck tools and material inventory
  • Responsible for collecting check payments from customer as needed
  • Responsible for supervision of troubleshooting and repair projects
  • Preparation before and clean-up of the job site when complete
  • Inspects, operates, or tests machinery or equipment to diagnose system malfunctions
  • Dismantles machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts
  • Performs routine maintenance
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines how to correct them
  • Assembles, installs, or repairs modules, wiring, electrical or electronic components, machinery, energy storage or other equipment.
  • Performs general cleaning duties of tools, vehicles, buildings, or properties
  • Records type and scope of maintenance or repair work

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of residential solar related experience, including a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory capacity as a Roof or Crew Lead Position.
  • Must possess and maintain a clean driving and criminal record
  • Drivers must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid Driver License with clean driving record and more than one year driving experience for insurance requirement
  • Motivated with an attention to detail, safety, and productivity
  • Well-skilled with the use of power tools, hand tools and possess the ability to train others how to use them safely.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient electronic and general computer skills (iPad, smartphone, personal computer systems, digital camera, e-mail, etc.)

Technical Operations

Technical Operations job duties include:

  •  Designing and permitting of photovoltaic solar systems.

Designer Requirements:

Laborer duties and responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of a laborer are all geared toward maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient
construction site while also supporting the overall project. The list of duties and responsibilities for a
laborer on any given day may include the following:

  • Cleaning and preparing construction sites.
  • Loading and unloading materials and equipment
  • Building and taking down scaffolding and temporary structures
  • Digging trenches, compacting earth, and backfilling holes
  • Operating and tending machinery and heavy equipment
  • Following instructions from supervisors and implementing construction plans
  • Assisting skilled tradespeople in their duties
  • Additional duties as assigned by the team leader or Installer I

Solar Energy Technician Job Responsibilities

Professionalism

knowledge and growth to be able to work with little to no supervision after training.

Smoking on the jobsite is not recommended. Smoking breaks shall be limited to break times and
lunch times only. Smoking in the construction area will not be tolerated! No employees shall smoke on a
roof top or under solar panels. Never in a customer’s home. Depending on the egregiousness of the
offense it may be a 1 and done for termination. (Smoking in a customer’s nonsmoking residence)

Clothing and appearance shall be professional at all times. Scenic City Solar provides hats, winter
toboggans and summer ball caps. T-shirts with Scenic City Logo in multiple colors are also provided. You
may also have the logo placed on any appropriate clothing to be used for work or advertising.
